I just got done setting up an email account for my daughter… she’s 4 months old.

A little early, you might say? She just started gripping toys, what makes me think she can actually type with those slobber-covered fingers, right?

Well, if I do everything the way I’m supposed to, she won’t be checking it until 2035, after her high school graduation. And when she does, I hope she likes what’s waiting for her:

To my sweet girl.

I just got done feeding you, burping you and softly resting you in your bassinet for a nap. You were tired and I don’t blame you. Your mother took you to see family in Winnemucca for the weekend while I stayed in Reno. I missed you so much! It was so nice to hold you and rock you to sleep.

So you’re probably wondering what’s going on here. Well, it’s simple.

At the advice of a coworker 18 years ago, I decided to create an email account for you. I have been sending you photos and notes about your life up to this point since you were little. They include your achievements, your milestones, embarrassing videos of your meltdowns, and any other times that I felt the need to tell you how much I love you and how proud I am of you.

This is my first one: today is Sunday, July 23, 2017. You are almost 4 months old. You weigh 12 pounds and 3 ounces. You have spectacular blue eyes. You figured out that you have hands. You rolled over a few weeks ago. Your sleeping schedule is exemplary.

When you’re bored, I hope you can go through all these emails and see how much your mother and I love and cherish you. You are a blessing and we hope you grow up to lead a happy and fulfilling life.

FYI, I did go in there every once in a while to make sure no one spammed you and that your emails were sorted chronologically, so you can easily read them in order. And the first one is going on Reno Dads, by the way.
