Classical Tahoe Family Day is August 4!

Music immerses children of all ages in language. Music evokes movement, stimulates the brain, and fosters curiosity. Studies from around the globe have shown that, from a very early age, an introduction to instrumental music has a profound long-term effect on concentration, problem solving, goal setting, fine motor skills, listening, and self-expression.

The Classical Tahoe Music Institute offers over twenty programs dedicated to engage children and families. The events on Sunday, August 4 in the courtyard and pavilion at Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village, NV offer a meaningful experience for all generations to share together.

The Music Maker Faire, a free event, offers musically inspired interactive activity booths from The Discovery Museum, Nevada Museum of Art and Usborne Books. The event will be held before and after the Family Orchestra Concert.

The Family Orchestra Concert, All About the Piano, will explore how the versatility of the piano transcends musical genres, styles, and periods. It will show how the piano is sometimes classified as a “string instrument” and at other times, a “percussion instrument”.

The concert will feature Angel Wang, teenage winner of the first annual Classical Tahoe Piano Competition. She will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Classical Tahoe Orchestra.

The 55-member Classical Tahoe Orchestra brings together musicians from the Metropolitan Opera, LA and NY Philharmonics, Philadelphia Orchestra and the symphonies of San Francisco, Seattle, Dallas, Toronto and Vancouver. Classical Tahoe Festival, now in its 8th season, is a classical and jazz concert series beginning July 7- August 11. classicaltahoe.org
