While many parents are looking forward to a climate controlled gym for the winter, others are preparing to jump right into the cold with youth skiing and snowboarding. This won’t come as a surprise to anyone in Reno, but we truly do have some world class skiing and snowboarding opportunities for our kids and our short guide should get you all started in the right direction on choosing a program for your kids. Most ski resorts in our area offer lessons for the entire family and usually have local pricing, if the sticker shock is a bit much at first glance.
It is hard to mention youth skiing and snowboarding programs in our area without starting off with Sky Tavern Junior Ski Program. As the oldest and largest volunteer-staffed ski school in the country, Sky Tavern is ran for over 2,200 kids by 600-1,000 volunteer parents each season and has been doing this since 1948.
Head over Sky Tavern Junior Ski Program for more information on programs for your children.
Another great program that is super close to Reno is the Kids @ Rose kids program. Mt. Rose – Ski Tahoe offers multi-session lessons for children. Parents who want to see their kids learn and appreciate the outdoors and the value of winter sports should definitely consider enrolling in one of our Kidz@Rose programs.
Check out their children’s programs at Kids @ Rose for more information on programs for your children including schedules and pricing.
An affordable option for those wishing to get their kids and even themselves involved in skiing is Donner Ski Ranch. They have individual and group lessons available for both skiing and snowboarding.
Squaw Kids is a program for kids 3 to 13 offering lessons for all levels for both skiing and snowboarding. They even have non-competitive, season-long ski program with a focus on skill development, mountain safety, mileage and fun! Kids will ski with the same group all season and develop camaraderie among their fellow skiers.
